16 March 2023

We started our meeting with congratulations being given to both Phil Selby, winner of the Wild Woods category of the British Wildlife Photography Awards (plus a Highly Commended in the same category) and to Philip Male who achieved a Commended.  Their successful images now appear in the 2023 British Wildlife Photography book just published (£25) and there has also been widespread coverage of the event both on television and in newspapers.  Well done to both!!  Check out -

Philip Male followed that announcement with a presentation on his recent adventures in the Boreal Forest of Finland.  Besides his splendid images of bears and other wildlife there, he regaled us with tales of the comforts (?) of many hours spent solo in a hide right next to the Russian border in minus temperatures with bears outside and a too short bed, plus the same-old-same-old food available at the camp!!!

After a break, we enjoyed member's images from February 2023.  We are an adventurous lot and many travel far and wide but we also seek out details closer to home.  Some enjoyed the night skies, notably the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) and a spectacular sunset, while others noted the effects of the cold weather or wrapped up warm to watch others enjoying outside sports!

The challenge of posting images illustrating Winter, Snow and Ice produced many fine images both from recent times and back catalogues.  Sometimes large scale scenes but at other times graphic small details, such as straight lines and curves, were featured.  Fortunately our meeting place felt quiet warm despite the chilling visuals!
